New Pro One Tubeless - 13% lower resistance and 22% more cornering grip. The pinnacle of German road bike tire technology, from Schwalbe, is faster and lighter than the best clincher tires.
Schwalbe have launched the new grippier Pro One Tubeless. Now only 245g for a 25mm and lower rolling resistance than the clincher version!
The Schwalbe tubeless road tires consistently win plaudits from journalists and customers alike. We have been testing them for a long time and have been very impressed. The Pro One's are Schwalbe's top-of-the-range tires and feature their triple compound tread so you get extremely low rolling resistance combined with excellent grip and durability. The Tubeless version of this tire only has 17w rolling resistance against the clincher version which has 19w. This all comes with the added benefits of tubeless including great puncture protection. The tubeless beads on Schwalbe tires have a flat edging and the new Micro-Skin carbon tubeless layer makes them incredibly good at sealing with the rim bed and sidewall and very easy to fit.
The highly respected German Magazine TOUR said "Unbeatable with punctures... – the "self-repair" with sealant means that no tube can compare ... The Schwalbe PRO ONE (performed ideally and installed without tools and weighs approx. 290 grams including 40 millilitres of sealant, while the Conti folding tire with tubes weighs 320 grams."
Please note - we can only supply these tires at the time of purchase of a HUNT wheelset. We cannot supply them separately.
Schwalbe Description
HIGH-END TUBE TYPE ROAD BIKE TIRE
Tubeless Easy is the special Schwalbe technology for the next evolutionary level of the tubeless tire. In practical terms, this means: A little liquid sealant is necessary, yet extensive conversion processes involving a lot of shaking and frequent re-pumping are not required. Compared to classic tubeless tires, it is far easier to assemble.
MicroSkin: New key technology for Tubeless Easy. MicroSkin is the development which makes the difference compared to previous tubeless tires. The patented construction consists of a high-tensile micro fabric which is vulcanized together with the rubber compound and the carcass. MicroSkin envelops the entire carcass and facilitates a fault-free Tubeless Easy operation for high pressure tires, not unlike SnakeSkin on an MTB tyre.
V-Guard Puncture Protection Belt. The liner is made of a specifically developed high-tech polymer fibre that is also used for bullet-proof and anti-stab vests. It provides excellent protection from cuts and punctures, and at the same time, it is extremely light-weight.
Addix Race Compound is a completely new formulation. Addix Race is a multi-compound made of the most innovative and highest quality proven polymers.
The new TUBELESS tire is a new experience. With the new PRO ONE, the tubeless tire provides ambitious sportsmen with significant benefits: It is faster, safer, and lighter. All of those who have been able to ride with the PRO ONE have been impressed and immediately convinced. This is because the TUBELESS tire with the PRO ONE does not only promise an advantage, but the TUBELESS tire with the PRO ONE is also a cycling experience.
In simple figures: The new Schwalbe PRO ONE is 25 percent lighter than the previous tubeless tire. The new PRO ONE is faster. The rolling friction measurements show almost 25 percent less than a comparable folding tire and over 40 percent less than tires that are similarly resistant to puncturing, such as the DURANO. This is joined by an all-round superior level of cut resistance.
The new TUBELESS tire is already being used by professionals. Martin Elmiger, Swiss champion of WorldTour Team IAM Cycling, and Sylvain Chavanel, have already put the tubeless tire to the test in extreme conditions. There is no tougher challenge for either cyclists or tires than the cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix. Their initial skepticism gave way to huge enthusiasm for the tubeless tires. Both cyclists were amazed at the speed and comfort with which the tubeless tires guided them over the hellish cobblestones. They didn't experience a single snake bite, by far the most frequent cause of blow-outs on the Paris-Roubaix route. Both cyclists completed the race without a single puncture. Martin Elmiger came in at fifth place.
Roger Kluge, also from the IAM Team, has already tested the new tires Down Under: "This tubeless tire has rolling properties like a track tire!" From a track specialist like Roger Kluge, this is a substantial compliment.
Which size to run 25 or 28mm?
Any of these three tire sizes will work excellently with our wheels and provide great performance but advantages can be gained by selecting the tire width to match your intended routes and types of riding. While 25mm wide tires are a great choice for many riders and have become the status quo over the past decade the consensus is shifting towards 28mm (even for pro-riders) as having lower rolling resistance, puncture protection, and of course comfort/grip.
Weight is obviously a factor and if you can save some on the tire that will make a bit of difference to climbing, so our view is if we're going to be doing rides/races with lots of climbing, where the descending speed/grip is not so important, then we would consider the 25mm option. We would also use 25mm tires with our Race Season wheels for any short aero-focused events such as time-trials and sprint/Olympic distance triathlons on smooth roads, as there is a reasonable consensus that a narrower tire than a rim improves aerodynamics. For pretty much any normal events/riding we would go for 28mm to improve rolling resistance/speed, grip and comfort. We would use 28mm tires with lower pressure (around 85-95psi) for training, rough roads, cobbles, or super long events where reducing fatigue is essential.
There are several articles online regarding tire width choice but here is a really good article by the guys at RoadCyclingUK.com 'Should you be using wider tires on your road bike?'
