The Purpose _

Engineered to maximize aerodynamic advantage for today's high-speed gravel races, without compromising on weight, responsiveness or crosswind stability. With the sharp end of today's gravel races mirroring the speed and tactics of road racing, our athletes asked us for wheels that held speed for solo moves and offered the quick acceleration they need to close gaps and attack on climbs. Patented Limitless Width Aero technology paired with UD Carbon Spoke unlocks the next level of weight savings in the gravel category.

Aerodynamically optimized around 40 and 45mm Schwalbe G-One gravel tires to reduce aerodynamic drag across the system, saving you watts and time. Wind tunnel-proven crosswind stability allows you to focus on your race, regardless of the wind conditions, while the extra-wide rim beads prevent race-ending pinch flats.

Front & Rear Specific Rim Design

Through the extensive testing with CFD modeling and wind tunnel validation, our engineering team have developed front and rear specific profiles that maximize aero benefit across the bike system while minimizing material mass.

H_Ratchet 48T DBL Rear Hub

The new dual-sided ratchet system with 48-tooth drive delivers a fast 7.5 degrees of engagement. 6061 aluminium alloy hub shell with extra strong 7075-T6 alloy axle.

UD Carbon Spokes

TaperLock UD carbon spokes offer up to a 6% increase in lateral responsiveness against steel equivalents. Only 2.7g per spoke and yet can handle tightening forces of ~450kgf per spoke compared to around 290kgf for leading stainless steel aero spokes.

Durability

The in-house engineering team have designed and tested against new gravel wheel protocols which far exceed industry-standard ISO testing. Combining this with a broad 4.5mm bead hook thickness reduces the likelihood of pinch flats while maximizing your comfort and rolling resistance when running low tire pressures.

TECHNOLOGY _

Through the use of the entire engineering suite, HUNT’s in-house engineering team has spent the last two years developing the rim profiles for the 40 Limitless Gravel Aero to maintain the aero efficiency benefits achieved by the category-leading Hunt 42 LGA wheels, while significantly reducing system weight and optimizing rim shapes around wider modern gravel tires.

The wind tunnel results, as seen in the graph, depict the performance of HUNT 40 Limitless Gravel Aero wheels among a range of world class aero wheels commonly used in competitive gravel racing. The data suggests that with both a 40mm and 45mm tire, the HUNT 40 Limitless Gravel Aero has the second-best aerodynamic drag while offering the fastest overall package when considering aerodynamic drag and system weight.

With the use of patented Limitless Width Aero construction and UD Carbon Spokes, HUNT was able to design unique front and rear rim profiles that offers an extremely wide profile with a truncated edge (blunted spoke bed) to help airflow remain attached to the system, while providing weight saving of up to 220g compared to the 42 Limitless Gravel Aero, and enhanced performance and durability on the harshest gravel roads due to the addition of wider internal rim widths and rim walls to prevent pinch flats.

Tires Info

HUNT recommends a 40-45mm tire for best performance, tire widths between 35mm and 60mm are also safe to use. You must not exceed the maximum tire pressure limits set out in the table below or the maximum limit set by your tire manufacturer if this is lower. Only use tires marked as compatible with hookless (TSS) rims. Note: best performance is usually gained by using tire pressures lower than the maximum, you can see our blog post here about this. Tubeless-ready for lower weight and rolling resistance.

HIGH SPECIFICATION COMPONENTS _

Patented Limitless Width Aero Technology

HUNT-patented Limitless Width Aero manufacturing process allows for a wider external rim shape while minimizing material mass, utilizing a strip of low-density structural polymer inserted in a molded channel within the rim sidewall with carbon molded over it. The wider shape and the more blunted the spoke bed increases aerodynamic performance across a wider range of yaw angles (as the airflow is predictable and does not separate to the same degree), resulting in fast, ultra-stable rim shapes without the weight penalty.

Front & Rear Specific Rim Design

The wider front rim profile (36mm wide ext/27mm wide int) provides an optimized aero interface at the leading edge of the bike, reducing drag and offering predictable handling in crosswinds. The increased internal rim width on the front design provides improved traction and cornering performance due to the more open tire profile. The rear of the bike encounters more turbulent air flow, allowing for the engineering team to optimize the rear rim profile (35mm wide ext/26mm wide int) for power delivery and weight savings.

Aerodynamically optimized for 40 and 45c tires. The rounded U-shaped hookless rim profile reduces aero-dynamic drag across yaw angles. HUNT’s in-house engineering team, leveraging CFD analysis and 3D prototyping, along with the proven validation method of wind tunnel testing, has raised the expectation level for aerodynamic efficiency while simultaneously reducing the wheel system weight and increasing responsiveness, creating a world-beating combination of performance attributes.

H_Ratchet 48T DBL Hub & Freehub Body

Featuring HUNT’s H_Ratchet double-sided system (with two floating ratchet rings), with a 48t ratchet ring resulting in just 7.5˚ engagement. Durability is a theme for HUNT, and so all our freehub bodies have a H_CERAMIK coating, a process similar to anodization to increase its density and hardness of the surface laser to provide excellent durability against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.

Precision Bearings

Double sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings offer smooth, reliable service with low friction. Or upgrade to the Industry leading CeramicSpeed ceramic coated bearings, designed specifically for our H_Ratchet hubset to maximize durability and performance.

UD Carbon Spokes

TaperLock UD carbon spokes offer up to a 6% increase in lateral responsiveness against steel equivalents. Only 2.7g per spoke and yet can handle tightening forces of ~450kgf per spoke. Owing to the TaperLock technology, these spokes can be trued using a spoke key from inside the rim bed.

Stated wheel weights: Our stated wheel weights reflect the wheelset only; without rim tape, tubeless valves or disc brake lock rings, as is industry standard. A 3% variance (lower or higher) in total system weight is normal for wheelset manufacturing.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. Max system weight 286 lb (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If the system is over 211 lb then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
