Hunt 38 Carbon Wide Disc Rim

The disc brake revolution has well and truly arrived in the road bike market and we at Hunt bike wheels know this is only a good thing! The Cycle show will see the Hunt Disc brake range expand to six meaning that there’ll be a wheelset to suit all your late-braking requirements.

At 1449g for $499 we think that the new Aero Light Disc offers the best $-$ road disc brake performance wheelset on the market. The aero alloy rim offers incredible speed on the flats whilst being nimble enough to skip up the climbs but retaining a wide 17mm inner rim width for a better tyre profile and increased grip. Straight pull Pillar aero spokes lace the rims to our Race Season Disc superlight hub where we’ve saved a little extra weight by using a carbon centre section. We pay attention to the finer details such as the stainless steel springs on the quick release skewers, the Steel Spline Insert on the freehub to prevent the cassette digging in and the upgraded S&S LU/LB bearings with lower friction seals on the internal face to eke out those marginal gains. We understand that you need flexibility to fit these wheels to the latest bikes and so all our disc brake wheelsets come with QR and 15mm bolt thru adaptors as standard with the option to buy kits for 9mm and 12mm front thru axles and 135x12 and 142x12 rear axles, not to mention freehubs available for Shimano, Campagnolo and the new the SRAM XD driver. We test all our Hunt wheels hard, in the lab with a harsh 3.7million strike cobbled-rolling road test, as well as months of testing on the pot-holed lanes of Sussex. The Aero Light Disc wheelsets received an extra rigorous real-world test; being ridden 600 miles across Europe’s toughest roads including the cobbles of Paris Roubaix with faultless performance.

Until now our focus has been on wheels for real-world riders, with the introduction of our new carbon disc wheelsets nothing has changed! We focus on the details that matter to provide you with wheels that perform for your riding every-day. Our 38 Carbon Wide disc (£949/pair) is the modern all-rounder, light weight, with great cross-wind handling and aero performance thanks to their super-wide U-profile design. The extra width also allows you plenty of tyre volume for extra grip, comfort, and low rolling-resistance. Like all Hunt rims, they are fully tubeless ready and come supplied with tubeless rim tape and valves. We use the same carbon Race Season Disc hub as the Hunt Aero Light Disc wheelset with Pillar triple-butted aero bladed spokes. There is also a 50mm deep option in the form of the 50 Carbon Wide Disc ($1119/pair) for those riders who want to focus on all out speed and may be even take on the TT boys with your version of discs.

At Hunt we love to ride, just like you, be it on road or off road. The emergence of the gravel bike should make all of us cyclists happy. The removal of the traditional road bike boundaries sets us free to explore. On a gravel bike you can go where you like un-constrained by the trivial matter of tarmac. Our new 4 Season Gravel Disc wheelset embraces the spirit of the roaming cyclist, giving you the correct tools for the job. Based on the award-winning Hunt x Mason 4 Season Disc wheelset, which were proven with a 4239km Transcontinental Race victory in under 10 days this summer by Hunt Brand Manager Josh Ibbett, the new 4 Season Gravel Disc wheels utilise the same hubset and spokes but pairs them with the new 24mm wide gravel rim and an increased spoke count. The ultra-wide rim gives a stable base to run a gravel or Cyclocross tyre at low pressures and of course is tubeless ready, massively beneficial for off road riding. Brass nipples and a 28-spoke count ensure this wheelset withstands the trail knocks. The double sealed oversize bearings ensure smooth running in the worst of conditions and full axle adaptability makes them ideal for the latest breed of tough on/off roaders. The high specification components deliver an impressively low weight of 1589g and they retail for $399/pair.

To see the full Hunt Bike Wheels range including all our new models come and visit us at the Cycle Show this weekend (26-27 Sept) on stand D41 where we will exhibiting alongside Mason Cycles who will be displaying the Definition and Resolution 4 season disc-brake bikes.
